The strategy of Software Mind SA is based on the development of two areas on the international and national market. One of them includes solutions based on semantic technologies and is the company’s serious chance to acquire a significant share in the global market of Web 3.0 and Web 4.0 solutions.
The creator of the www, Tim Berners-Lee, has announced that “the use of the Semantic Web will enable the development of applications much more powerful than those existing on the web”. Analysts agree that the next decade will see a dissemination of semantic technologies and Web 3.0 to many multi-billion technology markets which will consequently affect the transformation of global economies by changing the everyday lifestyle in a way at least equal to that witnessed with the World Wide Web and the Internet.
The Software Mind SA company has been developing projects utilizing semantic technologies since 2005. In 2007, its gross receipts from that area totalled at EUR 571,573; in 2008, The Company is planning a gross receipts growth of 45% and 70% in 2009. As part of the semantic technologies area, Software Mind SA is planning further development in three directions:
-
Corporate Semantic Web – a B2B area in which the Company will be rendering services and developing components for the integration and analysis of information stored in companies’ corporate systems. Such solutions will give corporate employees fuller and automatic access to knowledge
-
Vertical applications – a B2C area as part of which the Company is planning to develop specialized products for finance, medicine and tourism, utilizing the use of semantic analysis. These products will enable qualitatively new services to be built for consumers
-
Collective Intelligence - a public administration area – the Company is planning to develop solutions using multiple dispersed data sources, whose processing, analysis and inference will take place real-time. An example of such kind of solutions is crisis situation management support systems.
In two of those areas - vertical applications and collective intelligence – the Company is already running projects in cooperation with international companies.
One of them is a British firm, Garlik, the Company has been cooperating with since 2005 creating and developing a platform for the verification and protection of Internet users’ electronic identities – DataPatrol. Software Mind is the primary technology supplier for Garlik. Services offerred by Garlik are the first offer of this sort worldwide, aimed at countering the rising wave of electronic identity theft and use for financial fraud. Identity theft is the fastest growing type of crime in countries such as Great Britain or USA. The turnover for the last 12 months (July 07-June 08) from the realization of the project is equal to PLN 1,900,000. As part of the collective intelligence area, the Company participates in a consortium of ten international firms and research centres which execute theWeKnowIt project commissioned by the European Union. The primary purpose of the project is to develop innovative technologies to enable a multidimensional analysis of data originating from different sources. The line-up of the consortium executing the project includes such international corporations and renowned research centres as: Motorola Limited (United Kingdom), Vodafone Panafon - Hellenic Telecommunications Company SA (Greece), Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (Greece), University of Koblenz-Landau (Germany), Lycos Europe GmbH (Germany), The University of Sheffield (United Kingdom), University of Karlsruhe (Germany), The Sheffield City Council (United Kingdom), Brno University of Technology (Czech Republic). Software Mind SA has joined the WeKnowIt project consortium as a company with unique competences and experience in Semantic Web technology. The Company’s task is to develop a unified model and platform for the integration of multiple varied tools. Since the project is closely connected with the analysis and correlation of data from multiple different sources (phone, voice, video, text), semantic technologies will form a basis for the performance of such advanced analyses. The project, whose execution started on 1 April this year, will be carried out for 36 months and the value of the Software Mind SA contract is PLN 3 million.
