The operating strategy of Software Mind is building high quality products – reliable solutions that meet Customer needs – within planned time-frames and budgets. The company has established the Quality Lab department the task of which is to deliver quality assurance services to reduce Customer risk. Software Mind supports initiatives propagating the idea of improving the quality of IT solutions. The company is also a member of SJSI (Software and Systems Quality Association) and has co-organized the international conference on CMMI; that is why Software Mind became actively involved in the SPIN initiative.

On January 25, 2007, at the premises of Software Mind, the first inaugural meeting of the Krakow division of the Poland–SPIN initiative was held. SPIN, or the Software Process Improvement Network, is an organization that has been established in the United States on the initiative of Software Engineering Institute (SEI) and has expanded worldwide. The idea of all regional SPINs is to get to know and support each other and to share information among people who deal with software engineering processes. Local SPIN organizations have been created in Krakow, Szczecin, Wroclaw, Warsaw and TriCity. Polish SPIN initiative has been organized by bbjTest. SPIN conferences are held once a month to provide a forum for discussions, lectures and meetings with interesting people. Software Mind’s guests during the inaugural SPIN conference were: IBM Software Lab, Motorola, Sabre Holdings, Parasoft, Kugler Maag CIE and SJSI (Software and Systems Quality Association). The next meeting is planned for March 15; detailed information can be obtained at: http://spin-pl.org/krakow.html. During the conference such absorbing topics will be discussed as: CMMI versus Agile; How does IBM Krakow customize the RUP (Rational Unified Process) model?; How to tailor engineering processes to Customer’s unique requirements and needs?; How to efficiently assess quality of projects in progress?; Overcoming the resistance to change among senior executives and line employees – how to calculate ROI (Return on Investment) from quality tools and methods? - I am really happy that SPIN has started operating in Krakow. We have been lacking a local channel to share information and experience. The upcoming meetings of the Krakow SPIN look interesting, indeed – said Marcin Danielak, Quality Director of Software Mind.
